Effects of Complexities involved in Indian Nationalism in Subcontinent

Despite the diverse ethnic, linguistic and religious background, the concept Indian Nationalism supports the pluralistic integrity among the Indians. The British when came to the throne in Subcontinent they started damaging the socio-economical dignity of the Indians thus they shook their roots. Under the various ancients rules such as Gupta’s, Rajputs and Mughals India though there were disputes among the different communities but it was idealized by the ruler to unify India politically, socially and economically. However, when the British came they applied the divided and rule policy to get in the power.  The policy of divide and rule created hostility among the Indians and that ultimately gave British power to exploit the economy of subcontinent and trade the precious resources of India to the Great Britain. Thus, a new era of oppression was begun with the British rule that was alarming from not a single community but to the entire subcontinent. During War of 1885 Indian soldiers in the British army were encouraged to fight against the British under the slogan of Indian Nationalism. They didn’t get the freedom against the British rule in this war; however, the concept of Indian Nationalism made a huge significance in the history of subcontinent and even in today’s India.

The concept of Indian Nationalism was latter on promoted by Ghandi to unite Muslims, Hindu, Sikhs and other religious communities in India to fight against the British. However, practically this concept failed to apply and thus caused the division of Indian and Pakistan. For almost a decade Congress was the only party to represent the entire Indian nation. After the war of Independence the Muslims were blamed by the British to cause the enmity therefore Muslims were left behind in all aspect of development. Congress seemed biased to Hindus, thereby the Muslim leaders established Muslim league as a political party of Muslims. Even Mohammad Ali Jinnah who was an advocate of Indian Nationalism being a congress member, latter on changed his party and went to Muslim league. Though Hindu’s were talking about the Indian Nationalism but when it came to the division of resources or opportunities Hindu’s being in majority were always trying to get more benefit. This became evident with the opposition of congress against the division of Bengal that was significant for Muslim majority areas. Additionally, after the victory of elections of 1935 Hindu’s instead of working on the principles of Indian Nationalism worked according to the concept of Hindutva. Muslim leaders then supported the two nation theory to get a new home land. Both Hindu and Muslims were never letting a chance to let down each other. The British also made several attempts to unite them for a stable political structure, yet Indian nationalism couldn’t work. Thus, to executing concept of Indian Nationalism in a biased, religious intolerant and racist atmosphere became impossible with the complexities of leadership that have different objectives.
